Notas Durante su residencia europea y su permanencia en Zoagli y Milán, Xul tuvo la oportunidad de familiarizarse con la rica tradición italiana de los juegos de tarot. Fue probablemente a fines de la década de 1910 que diseñó y realizó su propio juego de cartas que en su iconografía sigue los modelos del temprano Renacimiento afirmados históricamente a los largo de los siglos. Su juego de tarot presenta además la particularidad de identificar cada carta por el valor numérico de las letras hebreas, siguiendo de esta manera la tradición ocultista establecida a fines del s. XVIII. Del juego, compuesto originariamente por 78 piezas –22 del Arcano mayor y 56 del Arcano menor– se conservan 18 y 5 respectivamente, por lo que entendemos que Xul no terminó con la realización del juego. Sólo una de ellas –“el Amor”– fue barnizada para protegerla y otras dos presentan en su reverso un diseño abstracto que rememora los diseños de las cartas tradicionales, aunque con una concepción absolutamente moderna la que permite, además, proponer una fecha aproximada para su realización como contemporánea a los diseños de arquitectura y tapices realizados a partir de 1918 (véase tomo 1, p. 57 y ss.).
