Esta tiene además representada la bandera del Estado Libre del Congo, un paño azul con una estrella amarilla de cinco puntas que la identifica –que representa la luz de la civilización alumbrando a la África negra– pero no aparece centrada sino corrida hacia el lateral izquierdo. La referencia a los tres ríos, además de la bandera –que supuestamente diseñó Henry Morton Stanley– permiten proponer como hipótesis que la pintura muestra al famoso explorador, navegando por los ríos. Observaciones La obra solo es conocida por su registro fotográfico histórico y es probable que la viuda la haya vendido a fines de la década de 1970, aunque en el documento referenciado aquí no hay una indicación específica sobre este punto.
