Natalio Jorge Povarché
In memoriam

On the second anniversary of Mr. Natalio Jorge Povarché’s death (1924-2008), it is a good opportunity to remember him who, apart from being the Chairman of the Fundación Pan Klub, was also Xul Solar’s marchand for almost forty years. From 1970 and with a sustained work, Mr. Povarché searched and found the way to affirm locally and internationally, the work of this artist. And if the marchand always remembered the opening exhibition of his gallery (Galería Rubbers in 1957) Pintura Mágica, in which he included two works by this artist, as a key moment for his relationship with Xul Solar, it is also true that since the seventies, it was him along with Micaela Cadenas (Lita), Xul’s widow, who worked intensely for such purpose.

Since the exhibition at the Musée de la Ville de Paris in 1977, through the almost annual exhibition of his works, held at the Gallery, and the participation of Xul Solar, in great exhibitions dedicated to the Latin American Art, during the eighties and the nineties, to those ones at the Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires (1998), the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid, 2002), Mr. Povarché kept evaluating which was the most adequate strategy for such objective.

When we think about the place that Xul Solar has nowadays, and wonders about the process that took, independently of the value of his works, we cannot but think about Mr. Povarché, to whom we dedicate these memories.
