Observaciones La pintura no fue datada por el artista y todos los registros llevados por su viuda indican 1920 como año de ejecución. La representación del agua -una franja de color con el borde superior ondulado que representa al agua- constituye un elemento iconográfico residual en tanto se lo identifica en pinturas realizadas entre 1922 y 1923. Sin embargo, en la obra aparecen ciertos elementos iconográficos que permiten proponer como fecha de ejecución el año 1924: se trata del empleo de unas líneas que a manera de cinturón aparecen en el personaje principal y que delinean tres cruces o tres equis. Este elemento solo aparece a partir de 1924 en pinturas como Místicos, Casa colonial o Despareja. Asimismo, la representación de una figura con forma de estrella (en realidad un pentagrama esotérico) que Xul comenzó a utilizar en 1924 pero de manera sistemática recién a partir de 1925.
