Notas Aun cuando el Carnet de apuntes referenciado no está datado, sin embargo, no existen dudas para asignarle 1920 como el año durante el cual Xul trabajó en él. Esto se debe a su mención a la Bienal de Venecia y a Boris Grigorief, y a la ciudad que la alberga, visita que se sitúa durante el mes de junio de 1920. Al tener esto en cuenta y conocer el primer apunte para Penitentes resulta válido asignarle 1920 como año de ejecución y desestimar el de 1917 según lo indicado en el inventario de la FPK, que responde probablemente a una inscripción de la viuda en su reverso pero que no ha podido ser verificada. Por otra parte, al estar firmada “Xul”, es probable que también haya sido expuesta poco después en Milán, aunque con un título que desconocemos.
