La identificación de San Montes lejos ha pasado por&#13;
varias etapas: en la primera subasta en 1985 fue presentada&#13;
con el título Construcciones, y en 1988 con el&#13;
de Paisaje, hasta llegar en 1994 al título San Monte lejos.&#13;
Nosotros hemos corregido este último a partir del&#13;
título con el que el artista lo expuso en 1940, San Montes&#13;
lejos, con la palabra “montes” en vez de “monte”.&#13;
Fue solo a partir de 1988 que la obra fue identificada&#13;
con una de las dos pinturas que pertenecieron a Jorge&#13;
Luis Borges, la otra fue Tlaloc (Cat. 580). Asimismo,&#13;
ya en 1985 se indicaba que el marco que presentaba&#13;
la obra había sido realizado por el artista con lo cual&#13;
se pasó a reproducirla incluyéndolo aun cuando si&#13;
bien fue realizado por él se trata de un marco tradicional&#13;
no moldurado que la particularidad que posee&#13;
es el color con el que lo pintó.</text>
