En el catálogo de la subasta en Posadas (1991), se&#13;
indicaba que en el reverso la obra presentaba una&#13;
etiqueta de la Galería Rubbers certificando su autenticidad&#13;
con el n. 14. En realidad y teniendo en cuenta&#13;
los reversos de las otras obras que fueron expuestas&#13;
en 1980, en el reverso sobre el cartón debe haber tenido&#13;
escrito con un rotulador el número del catálogo&#13;
y el título, y seguramente también el cartón tenía una&#13;
inscripción de Micaela Cadenas con el título y el número&#13;
de la obra en su exposición en Sala V en 1953. La&#13;
obra fue vendida durante la exposición en la Galería&#13;
Rubbers en 1980 y la subasta indicada constituye su&#13;
último registro documentado.&#13;
Observaciones&#13;
Las medidas de la obra se desprenden de los registros&#13;
de Micaela Cadenas y del catálogo de la exposición en&#13;
Galería Rubbers (1980); el único registro fotográfico&#13;
que existe es un negativo blanco y negro, probablemente&#13;
de la época de la exposición mencionada.</text>

La documentación que “rodea” a esta obra es la que&#13;
permite reconstruir el método de trabajo de Xul: un&#13;
retrato fotográfico de F.S. Schiffer a partir del cual el&#13;
artista estudió el rostro de Miguel Ángel Asturias –tal&#13;
como aparece en uno de sus cuadernos de apuntes–,&#13;
luego la realización de dos estudios al lápiz (Cat. 1723&#13;
y 1724), en los que el escritor es presentado de frente&#13;
y de perfil. Esto último le permite ya componer el&#13;
retrato, a lo que suma lo que en realidad es el punto&#13;
de partida de la obra, la carta astral de Asturias. Un&#13;
proceso semejante se observa para Retrato-Sagitaria&#13;
(Cat. 910) y en otros casos en los que se conserva&#13;
solo parte de esa documentación, como en Sin título&#13;
[dibujo preparatorio para horóscopo retrato del Rev.&#13;
Covello] (Cat. 1718) o en sus estudios identificados&#13;
como Cat. 1726 a 1729.&#13;

Conocido como Retrato-Sagitaria, en general se ignora&#13;
que se trata de un retrato de Micaela Cadenas, esposa&#13;
de Xul Solar, nacida bajo el signo de Sagitario el&#13;
28 de septiembre de 1902, para el que además realizó&#13;
varios estudios, aquí indicados en Obras asociadas.&#13;
Lita fue también objeto de otras pinturas, como Horóscopo&#13;
de Lita (Cat. 965), a la que se debe agregar&#13;
dos retratos grafías (Cat. 1296 y 1297) y un dibujo&#13;
(Cat. 1730) todo esto sin contar aquellas grafías que&#13;
también se relacionan con ella (Cat. 1048, 1049, 1278,&#13;
1050 y 1279).</text>
